Memories of Barbados.

Enjoy this exciting tale of a genuine rogue who is an adventurer at heart and an all-around sport with an over-developed spirit of fun.  Rex Wotton managed the West Coast Watersports shop at Coral Reef hotel, just up the beach from Settlers Beach. They took hotel guest diving and on daytime and sunset cruises along the coast. He was a master seaman trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in all matters of navigation, sailing, diving, explosives, and marine work. Rex was one of the most enchanting Rogues of Barbados. He had a woderful sense of fun and used it to win over every situation. Rex was independent at an early age and often disappeared for days at a time, camping by Joes' river . He built campfires from coconut husk and twigs and cooked his catch with breadfruit, wild okras, plantain, and edible vines. He ate mangoes, and local berries like fat pork, and sea grapes, that grow along the beach.



When getting out of the sea at Settlers Beach Villa Beach Hotel, in full scuba gear, wetsuit, and tank, he looked like a James Bond character on a mission. He had a six-inch blade strapped to his shin and carried rods of dynamite . His objective was to plant explosives around the reefs, set to blow when he got out of the sea. It was a government-approved project to clear a swimming area for visitors. The explosion shook the buildings just minutes after he was on land. "Oh!" he laughed, slightly worried," Maybe a stick too much dynamite on that one."
